Manish K Mukherjee (1956 – 2014)

Born in the family of an Educationist in Barrackpore, and a Postgrad in Agricultural Science from Allahabad (presently SHUATS), he had worked with the National Tobacco, and later implemented the Anand model in Bihar and North Bengal, but family obligations brought him back to Kolkata where he found his niche in the advertising world. Those were the heydays when companies like Dunlop, ITC, HMV, Exide, Tata, and Bata operated out of Kolkata and set the tone of corporate advertising. In the crowd of luminaries of creative and marketing, Manish made a place for himself. After a stint at a couple of other companies, Manish opened his own agency ‘Vistaar’ in 2003.

He always rooted for the small enterprises, firmly believing that it was his duty to make the consumers aware of the quality of the goods and services offered by them. One such initiative was ‘Rong Route’ launched in 2006. His advice and encouragement allowed ‘Rong Route’ to present itself in both print and the digital media promoting eco-tourism, that existed even today. He used to dream of an agriculture-based project to find the sustainability in tourism, and thus extended his hand in establishing NESTs. His early demise is a loss to our Society, but we fondly remember Manish and his constructive optimism which has been and will be our inspiration in the years to come.
