About NESTS

Our dream is to bring Tourism and Sustainability together

Native Eco-Sustainable Tourism Society or NESTS (Regn. No. S/2L/5822 of 2013-14) started as an initiative among friends who were dreaming of bringing tourism and sustainability together. The founder members had interest in tourism and to promote tourism in Dooars, conservation was needed of the vast flora, fauna and local tribes. The knowledge of the natives needed to be discussed and explored. Balancing ecology, bio-diversity with tourism needed to be managed in a manner that there was conservation of nature as well. The corpus of maintenance of the beauty of the region lies upon us and NESTS is an organization registered in 2013 with the objective to promote sustainable tourism along with empowering different tribal communities and women of Dooars in West Bengal to maintain the balance between humans and nature.
NESTS have understood that promoting native tourism by training the local tribes would yield better results. There are three aspects of native tourism – a) economy - The natives could be given opportunity of earning a living which would generate income for the locals through eco-friendly tourism. Promotion of local handicraft can also be done, b) environment – The natives of the region are more aware of their biosphere and their knowledge base would help us in conserving nature better, c) Cultural – Protection and promotion of local culture and tradecrafts to help in conservation of ethnicities in the region. Training them in eco-sustainable tourism would help in pushing what we call native tourism which would help us in preserving the flora, fauna and tribal population.
